Has time flown this year? As 2017 comes to a close and you start focussing on 2018, it will help to clear the old year out before moving to the next one.
Try this exercise either in your office or in front of the fire with a glass of wine. It is designed to be a helpful review of the year and an opportunity to celebrate your successes. Let me know how you get on.

These are the steps:

1. Leaf or scroll through your 2017 diary, looking a month at a time

2. Say to yourself, “I accomplished this………..” “I did that…………………..” Write a
list if that helps

3. Close out each month

4. Think about what you are going to leave behind (physically & emotionally)

5. Think about what you want to take forward into the new year

6. Go through each month until the end of December

7. Once you have brought your year to a close you will be ready to move in to
2017. Wrap up the old and open the new!

Hello

Long-time no speak!

It’s hard to believe that the first day of summer has been and gone already. I’ve read some reports of a scorching summer but, frankly, I’ll believe that when it happens.

Half way through the year and I can hear the corporate groans because it’s appraisal time. I often hear mini-groans when it comes to 1:1s. If you have a moment, here’s a quick webinar that will give you a few ideas. If not, some Top Tips below.

What will you be doing to recharge this summer? I shall be watching cricket and cycling amongst other things and I will definitely be switching off from the outside world for a few weeks. I do this regularly, with clients in meetings – we set our phones aside, breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy a hassle free day of clear-thinking.

Do keep in touch; I’d love to hear how your year is going.

Hope your year has started well. Thought you might like a Valentine’s gift – some beautiful red (albeit virtual) roses and a good book idea. I’ve been reading “Quiet” by Susie Cain; it’s a great book for understanding one another and its strapline is ‘the power of introverts in a world that can’t stop talking’!

If you’re looking to treat yourself today, try switching off digitally for 30 minutes, to allow yourself a break from all the noise. You can also turn the volume down on your day with gadgets like Bose’s QuietComfort 25 noise cancelling headphones. I don’t have these but friends are rating them.

Finally, special thanks to my client Jane for allowing us to do a case study on performance coaching.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We humans have learned to tolerate a lot. We put up with, accept, take on and are dragged down by things in our physical environment like disorganisation, messes, broken stuff and other things like people’s behaviour, situations, unmet needs, crossed boundaries, incompletion, frustrations, problems and even our own behaviour.

You are tolerating more than you think. So what are you tolerating? Please take a couple of minutes to write down the things you sense that you are tolerating, if they aren’t on this list.

Do you have to do anything about them? No, not really. Just becoming aware of and articulating them will bring them to the forefront of your mind and you’ll naturally start handling, eliminating, fixing, growing through and resolving these tolerations. Enjoy this exercise!

If you’d like coaching around reducing your tolerations, I’d be delighted to work with you.

How was your summer? I trust you had some good R&R. Mine revolved around watching cricket and cycling in France – lovely! If you’ve found getting back into full swing this month difficult, it may be because you don’t have enough reserves in your life.
Having reserves is about having more than you need or think you deserve. When you have reserves you are more relaxed and more yourself, which in turn means you perform better at work and at home.

Time, friends, environment, energy, family and even your fridge ….these all require reserves. Much of my coaching work focuses on this tricky area, which is all too easily lost in the hamster wheel of work and life. If you want to create some awareness around your reserves, email me for a simple exercise.

Have a great autumn,

I hope this finds you well. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about the World Cup and getting behind England in the next few weeks. What did you think of the team selection earlier this week? I wonder if the players are as good at selling themselves off the field?
I came across this fantastic video on You Tube about the ‘Science of Persuasion’. Great content and highly creative! It’s about how we’re persuaded and describes 6 shortcuts to how people make decisions.

Many of my clients have difficulty negotiating or taking their career to the next level. I imagine there will also be a few players disappointed they didn’t make the England Team. Coaching will give you the skills needed to sell yourself better and improve outcomes when negotiating. Drop me a line to find out more!

Come on England!

On Leadership

A mate of mine, Mike Carson has recently launched a new book called The Manager. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet but here’s a few reviews:

A book that aims to dig deeper, including “behind-the-scenes” interviews with more than 30 managers, must be welcomed … Carson does well to avoid the kinds of clichés that blight so many other books on football (Financial Times)

Mike Carson takes a different approach in his compelling examination of 30 managers, treating his subjects as savvy businessmen as much as sports gurus … It’s impossible to interview such people and not come away with some peerless insights (Observer)

Cool Apps

MyFitness Pal

-recently added new languages

MiCoach

-great for helping with motivation!

World Cup 2014

-has built an app to keep fans updated

As 2012 comes to a close and you start focussing on 2013, it will help to clear the old year out before moving to the next one.

Try this exercise either in your office or in front of the fire with a glass of wine. It is designed to be a helpful review of the year and an opportunity to celebrate your successes.

These are the steps:

1. Leaf through your 2012 diary, looking a month at a time

2. Say to yourself “I accomplished this………..” “I did that…………………..”

3. Close out each month, writing down your thoughts

4. Think about what you are going to leave behind (physically & emotionally)

5. Think about what you want to take forward into the New Year

6. Go through each month until the end of December

7. Once you have brought your year to a close you will be ready to move in to 2013. Wrap up the old and open the new!

8. Give yourself the gift of time and buy a Time Management webinar!
